Ben Jonson Primary School

Project Description

Ben Jonson Primary School in Tower Hamlets was in the second year of the Creative Partnerships Change School Programme when we were invited to work on a school & community based project which engaged both their Somali and Bangladeshi communities. The project was funded by A New Direction and was run during the Spring and Summer Term.

The aims of the project were to engage the pupils and parents in a cross phase arts project which involved textiles, creative use of ICT & literacy. An important part of the project was that it left a legacy for the school and staff and parental engagement was key in this respect.
We collaborated with inspirational rap artist Breis King who lead the literacy workshops.

The project outcomes included; A fabric emotion tent, cushions, large banners, a large digital banner for the ICT suite, poetry and literary work.

This was a whole school project which included staff training and mentoring, community workshops as well as involvement from every year group.
